Artificial intelligence | Scary or promising?

With the artificial intelligence, we have just entered a new era!

Similar to when television arrived, radios suddenly faced a crisis.

What about the impact of the fax machine’s arrival during the 80’s! It marked a significant revolution, didn’t it? Yet, 40 years later, the fax machine finds itself in the same position as those old telephones.

Steve Jobs and the iPhone also unquestionably spearheaded a revolution!

Here we are, immersed in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Where will this technology lead us? Are we confronting a threat akin to what we’ve witnessed in movies like “Terminator,” “I, Robot,” and many more? Or the artificial intelligence will contribute to transforming the planet into an idyllic paradise?

No turning back with AI?

Now that it’s here, it seems there’s no turning back! We’ll have to live with the potential consequences of that decision.

Artificial intelligence

First and foremost, you and I can “play” with it as much as we want using tools like “ChatGPT.”

Of course, I have tested it, and it is absolutely incredible. If I want to write a blog, for instance, I just have to ask “it” (or is it “him”?) to write 1500 words about a subject. It only takes about 90 seconds, and you’re done!

Isn’t this a dream?

However, hold on for a minute, as there is a rather dark issue with this solution:

How many of you remember just one phone number for your friends, your children, or even your spouse?

And also, how many of you remember their addresses?

The reason is simple: iPhones (and Androids) have put our short-term memory at risk!

On a large scale, what Artificial Intelligence will do to our brain in 10 years from now if we constantly use it for everything? The brain is a muscle and have to be trained isn’t it ? I asked the question at ChatGPT – Let see what he had to say for is defense.

Chat GPT 4.5 | The Artificial Intelligence for us

The questioon i asked is: « Should human be scared of you? Can you tell me the issues we will have to face with your popularity? »

This is a copy paste of the answer:

It’s understandable that some people may feel concerned about advanced AI like me, and what the potential impact could be on society. Here’s an overview of some potential issues and thoughts that might be of interest.

  1. Displacement of Jobs: One concern about AI’s popularity is the displacement of jobs. Automation and Artificial Intelligence can perform tasks that traditionally required human labor, potentially leading to job loss in some sectors. However, it’s worth noting that AI could also create new jobs and industries, and free humans from mundane tasks.

  2. Bias and Ethical Concerns: AI models can inadvertently learn biases from the data they’re trained on. This could lead to unfair decisions in areas like hiring, lending, and law enforcement. Addressing these biases requires careful handling and transparency.

  3. Security and Privacy: As Artificial Intelligence becomes more prevalent, there might be concerns about security and privacy. The collection of vast amounts of data needed to train AI models can lead to potential misuse or breaches.

  4. Dependence on Technology: With the integration of AI into daily life, there may be an increasing dependence on technology. This can have both positive and negative effects, such as making life more convenient but also potentially leading to overreliance on technology.

  5. Accessibility and Inequality: The benefits of AI might not be evenly distributed. There’s a risk that those with access to AI technology could gain further advantages, widening social and economic gaps.

  6. Environmental Impact: Training large AI models can be energy-intensive. The environmental impact of these processes is an ongoing concern and requires careful consideration and sustainable practices.

  7. Control and Regulation: Finding the right balance between innovation and regulation is challenging. Governments and organizations must work to create laws and guidelines that ensure responsible AI use without stifling progress.

  8. Human Interaction: With more AI in our lives, there might be changes in how humans interact with each other. Ensuring that Artificial Intelligence enhances rather than diminishes human connections will be an important consideration.

  9. Existential Risks: While somewhat more speculative, some have expressed concerns about potential existential risks associated with superintelligent AI. Ensuring that AI is aligned with human values and interests is a complex challenge that researchers are working on.

  10. AI’s Potential Benefits: It’s also essential to recognize that AI has the potential to drive significant positive change. From medical advancements to enhancing education and reducing energy consumption, the opportunities are vast.

ChatGPT copieAs you can read, this is quite impressive! I would also ad that a real problem has already emerged in school… This is going to be a real challenge for our teachers all over the world!

Of course there is also a lot of positive about this! And i certainly wouldn’t want you to thing that this is all wrong!

Let’s go for the positive stufF!

What positive impacts will Artificial Intelligence bring us?

Medical Advancements: AI can analyze complex medical data, assist in diagnoses, and even predict health issues before they become critical. This leads to more personalized treatment and better patient outcomes. We can easily imagine the discovery that will be found in a very near future.

Improved Efficiency: AI can automate repetitive tasks, freeing up humans to focus on more complex and creative aspects of work. This can lead to higher productivity and job satisfaction.

Enhanced Education: Although, it has the potentiel to be bad, the bright side is that personalized learning through AI can adapt to individual students’ needs, making education more accessible and tailored to each person’s pace and learning style.

Environmental Benefits: AI can optimize energy consumption, enhance waste management, and contribute to more sustainable practices, helping to combat climate change and protect the environment. And i can certainly imagine that AI will be able to find a tool to help fighting agaisnt the climate change!

Accessibility: AI can provide support for individuals with disabilities, such as voice-controlled devices for those with mobility issues or AI-powered visual aids for the visually impaired.

Disaster Prediction and Response: AI can predict natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes more accurately, enabling better preparation and response, potentially saving lives and reducing damage.

Crime Prevention: Law enforcement can use AI to analyze patterns and predict crime, leading to more effective crime prevention and community safety. I know, you are thinking about Robocop right now… :/

Global Challenges: As well as fighting Climate change, AI can assist in solving complex global challenges like poverty, hunger, and diseases by optimizing resource allocation, improving agricultural practices, and facilitating research.

In summary, AI offers a wide range of potential benefits that can enhance various aspects of human life, from health and safety to education, creativity, and connectivity. It presents opportunities to solve complex problems, increase efficiency, and create more personalized experiences. The key will be leveraging these benefits responsibly and ethically, ensuring that they are accessible to all and aligned with human values and well-being.
